Pomona

Our main purpose for this trip to the West Coast was for Murat to check out some schools, so we based our itinerary according to the schools we could see in a limited amount of time.  Our first day we went to Cal Poly in Pomona, which is only about forty five minutes from LA.  It was an easy ride east on the freeway.  Although Murat was interested in mechanical engineering, I was really excited about seeing the famous Kellogg Arabian Horse Center that is a part of the California Polytechnic School.  As Murat went around the Engineering School getting information, my husband and I drove around the campus and enjoyed the warm weather, watching the horses as well as listening to the unique bird songs coming out of the trees.  It was a very pleasant and beneficial day; Murat loved the school and was even more excited about going to see Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo the next day.

My sister-in-law, Wendy's mom's house is only fifteen minutes from the school and so we all went out to dinner together to a great Hong-Kong restaurant that the Chinese population in the area frequented.  It was one of the best Chinese meals I have ever had and we were informed by Wendy and her mom that this was a very typical Hong-Kong restaurant.  We had a wonderful meal full of surprises (Wendy and her mom ordered for us) where each arriving dish was better than the one before.  I think I will let the pictures tell the story from here on...
Stir-fried Noodles with Beef

Shrimp Honey Roasted Walnut

Hot and Sour Soup

Sweet and Sour Pork

and the Peking Duck was to die for... I think this place is worth a side-trip for anyone who is spending some time in Los Angeles.
